In our German conversation group, we have people who have quite different levels of knowledge. They range from native German-speakers to those who have only fairly recently started to learn the language. However, everyone benefits from having a chat in German, if only to listen to it being spoken.

We could be talking about a holiday or a film someone has seen. No preparation is needed but quite a few members write something down to read or use as a crib sheet for the meeting.

Communication is the object of the exercise and we don’t worry about the grammar.

We meet on alternate Thursdays in the café of the Open Learning Centre, and chat for an hour.
